Ideapad Y700 Turn on problem

2017-01-08, 15:21 PM

When I push the shut on button, laptop starts to turn on but after 1 or 2 seconds it turn off suddenly (like a cut of energy). After that, laptop turns on normally and works perfect.

I'm worried because I think that the cut of energy could damage HDD or something else.

I tried with solution center but it shows that everything is ok

Restored system and the problem still there. I'm afraid that is a hardware problem.

Hi there, Pavilac          -

Thank you for writing in to the Lenovo Forum - happy to have you here today.

You can also start by flushing out all static, remove battery and AC adaptor and hold down power button for about 15 seconds.

Reseat the memory modules. Or remove the modules and try various combinations.

What are boot options?  (Legacy vs. uefi) boot order?  I don't have a Y700 to look at, but in the bios, there may be an option for rapid boot.  Turn it off.

Update us how it goes.

Hi Shashi,

To disconnect battery, I'll need to open the back panel, Im afraid that doing this will avoid my warranty.

I attached an image with my boot options. I'll try with slow startup.

Thank you

This could be a hardware issue. Hence I would recommend contacting Lenovo service centres and applying the normal phone techniques to get it replaced promptly or assist you further.

Schedule a Call-back for faster support

Since I live in Ecuador, its difficult to send the laptop to US. I'll try to flush static first. Any advice?

Hi pavilac4,

It's possible that there's something internallly that's shorting the power (from my experience, the unit should start right away after pressing the power button).

Just to verify, when you said the laptop turns off suddenly, do you mean the power light indicator is cutting out after 1-2secs?

Also, does this happen while running on battery or plugged-in?

One thing that you can try is to reset the BIOS, you can do this by pressing the NOVO buttong then selecting BIOS setup. Inside the BIOS press FN + F9 then selecet yes, then press FN + F10 to save and exit. You may also want to update the BIOS to the latest.

Let us know how it goes.

Cheers,

Hi jamdy17,

After pressing the power button, the laptop begin to start, but after 1-2 secs, it turns off. The power light indicator turn off, screen goes black, there is a sound(the same that sound when laptop is turned on and you keep pushed power button some seconds), I think is caused by the HDD or fans.

It happen just with battery and also when it's with AC

Yesterday, I updated bios(it changed start lenovo logo), it did't solve the problem

Thank you,
