Hello everyone, this is my 1st post in this forum. i'm sorry if i have bad english.
I currently using Ideapad Z480 series (i7-3612QM proc, 988B rPGA (G2) socket). Now i have plan to upgrading my processor.
i know that i7-3612QM processor is match with G2 socket (here), after that i browse another powerfull processor which is compatible with G2 Socket too and i found i7-3940XM processor (here). i also compare between 3612QM vs 3940XM (here)
My question is:
1. Can i replace my current processor (3612QM) with this one (3940XM)?
2. If you have another upgrading opinion, what processor series is the best for replacing i7-3612QM?
Thank you very much.

Welcome to the Community Forums.
Technically, some CPU upgrades like with i7-3940XM may work but again OEM machine do have whitelist limited by the BIOS.
From the hardware manual FRU list (item 8 page 86-87) of accepted CPU for the machine. It would appear i7-3612QMis the best one suggested for the model. Perhaps upgrading other parts like storage drive and memory would help increase the machine performance instead.
I hope this helps answer your query.
