I want to replace my Ideapad Z510 HDD with a SSD drive, but I have two questions:
1) Can I use a 9.5mm SSD on the original disk drive location (not on a caddy or something like that) or I just have to go for a 7mm one?
2) If I want to use a caddy (to run my HDD) is there any size/dimension restrictions?
Thanks for your help,

Welcome to the Community Forums.
Generally the specification for the storage in this model as per hardware manual :
• 2.5-inch, 7 mm/9.5 mm SATA
But since it would be using an SSD adapter then better to go with a 7mm as offered by other resellers like Crucial.
The SSD adapter and hard drive usually are standard by size and dimension. Resellers would have their "known to work" for each model still getting a return option would be a good back up plan just in case.
Hope this help answer your query.
