Ideapad Z580 touchpad not working

My touchpad on my laptop has recently stopped working. I am unable to move the cursor but can usually click. The pressure graph and mood pad usually recognize that there is pressure on the pad but the cursor still doesn't move. I have tried uninstalling the synaptic driver and reinstalling it but it still won't work. I can sometimes get the cursor to move by using the very bottom of the touchpad (over the buttons) but it's not really helpful. Is there anything else I should try?

Welcome to the Lenovo Community !

 

Uninstalling the driver and then installing a fresh copy is usually the first fix.  If that didn't work then try reseting the BIOS just to rule out a possible hardware conflict.  To do the reset, do this......

1. Unplug the charger / adapter.
2. Remove the battery.
3. Press and hold the Power Button for 15 seconds.
4. Re-install the battery, plug in the charger / adapter if needed and power up the system to see if the problem was resolved.

 

If the reset didn't resolve the problem then your problem is most likely hardware related.  I would suggest you contact Lenovo Support for additional service especially if your warranty is still active.  You can find the phone number for Lenovo Support in your country or area by using the link below....

My computer crashed yesterday and did a system restore to a previous time and it actually fixed the problem.
