Ideapad Z710 weak battery message

Hi,

 

I have an Ideapad Z710 which I purchased about 3 years ago. Started receiving "The battery is weak, and needs to be replaced" message.

 

Is this a fault or a software update required? I understand degradation of the battery is expected, but do I really need to replace the battery?

After 3 years, it is very possible the battery has worn out. Check out this program: http://www.cpuid.com/softwares/hwmonitor.html to see if the battery is failing.
