Ideapad y510p not charging past 60%

My Idea y510p with windows 10, will not charge past 60%. My battery holds charge, and will charge, but doesn't go to full charge.

Re: Ideapad y510p not charging past 60%

Hi ARob6

Welcome to the Community Forums.

This may be part of the normal energy conservation for the battery so that it would prolong battery life not exceeding charging as described in this article:

Battery charge stops at 60% (plugged in, not charging)” - idea/Lenovo laptops

The battery charge stops at 55%-60% even with AC adapter plugged in and shows "plugged in, not charging” message. Battery cannot be charged to full.

Two methods are introduced, please perform accordingly:

Click on the article for changing the configuration whichever may apply to yours. Changing power energry from conservation mode to full performance would allow charging to 100% but is not advised for prolonged setting as this is normally intended to extend your battery life cycle.

Hope this help answer your query.

Update us how it goes for you.

Regards

Re: Ideapad y510p not charging past 60%

I've recently installed Windows 10, and one of the big missed features is exactly this, I want my battery to charge only up to 60%, then stop charging. Is there a Windows 10 compatible Energy Management software I can install?

The "Lenovo Settings" application does this for systems that have compatible hardware.  I think that you can download this application free of charge from the "Microsoft Store".

If you don't want to register for the "Microsoft Store",  I have installed the following version of the Lenovo "Energy Manager" application on Windows 10 on my 700-15ISK, and it works for me.  It may work for you:

Re: Ideapad y510p not charging past 60%

Oh, thank you very much. I've just installed that app using a local account, no registration needed.

Is this normal?

Did Microsoft actually improved the store by removing the need to log in in order to install an app?

I can't believe that, Microsoft always wanted so hard to completely mess the Windows Store...

Nevertheless, when I've opened it, it said that I needed to restart cause there were a problem. I'm doing so.

What about this Energy Management version for Windows 10?

Yours is version 1.5.0.17, that Windows 10 compatible version is 1.67.12.24. Looks like an improved version of the same piece of software.

Lenovo, is that Windows 10 version also compatible with the IdeaPad Y510P?

Did you already have a Microsoft id?  It may have used that and logged you in automatically.

That is described as a power-management driver, so it may not include the application part.  Also, the "ReadMe" lists Thinkpads as the compatible systems (not Ideapads).

There are actually many different versions of the "Energy Manager" application on the Lenovo web site, most (possibly all) intended for Windows 7 or Windows 8.  However, most of them seem to work on Windows 10 too.  (I tried three different ones when trying to find an "Energy Manager" application.)  Also, the version numbers are not consistent, so it is not easy to determine which is the most-recent version.

Re: Ideapad y510p not charging past 60%

Thank you.
No, Windows Store clearly shows an option that says "Sign In", which means I'm not signed in. Nevertheless, if I click on Sign In it shows my Outlook account, which is weird since I've never used it to sign in. Well, only in IE 11.

I can install and update apps.

Re: Ideapad y510p not charging past 60%

OK, the Lenovo Settings app didn't work by itself, so I had to install the offered software from Lenovo: SystemInterfaceFoundation. After that, I've restarted the notebook and now the app works.

IT HAS THE BATTERY FEATURE!

Now the battery charges to 55-60% and then stops, so it's working perfectly.

Amazing, truly amazing, I'm very happy I solved this that quickly and easy. I was quite sure Y510P users would be totally abandoned in Windows 10. Only I miss the "fan feature", that one that you clicked a button and the fan worked 100%, cleaning all the dust as the software description said.

Excellent!

The "fan dust removal" feature is no longer provided.  I think it was removed because it was considered not to be effective.  However, if you really  want that feature, there is a different version of the "Energy Manager" application that has it (version 1.0.0.35).  The application looks almost the same as the one that I specified earlier (version 1.5.0.17), but it has a slightly different selection of settings.  Both versions include battery conservation mode, but 1.0.0.35 has fan dust removal, whereas 1.5.0.17 has battery shipping mode (resets battery to "shipping mode" to stop all discharge for long term storage).  This is 1.0.0.35:

I hope this is the correct one; I have eleven different versions of the "Energy Manager" application in my download library, and I am beginning to lose track of which does what!

Re: Ideapad y510p not charging past 60%

Well, it's not a big deal if I don't have it, the most important feature, almost a reason not to upgrade from Windows 8.1 to Windows 10, was the battery health feature that stops charging at 60%.

The dust removal button worked fine when I wanted to cool down quick the notebook just after a session of gaming, which can perfectly manage to set the CPU and GPU up to high 80ºC, even 90ºC peaks.

I can live without it, but it would be nice if Lenovo bring it back to the app.
