Ideapad z510 USB port Issue

Hi Everyone,

I have a Levnovo z510 i5 @2.5 GB running windows 10.

The usb ports gets disconnected on their own.

I have to place my laptop on the floor to acess the pendrive .

Also, sometimes, it just doesn't recognize and gives this error 'Device has malfunctioned!'

Kindly provide help.

Re: Ideapad z510 USB port Issue

Hi itsmeUtkarsh ,

Welcome to the Community Forums.

The way described it is like a placement issue as when you have a good spot like putting it down to the floor for a stable position is when you are able to use it.

Poor contact with the port and the device may send of misdetection of the drive thus having the error .

Would you have the same issue using a different pendrive?

Would it happen to all ports?

How was it if you use an external USB mouse to isolate on all the ports?

Update us how things go.

Regards

Re: Ideapad z510 USB port Issue

HI Speidey101,

Reg your questions:

Ques:Would you have the same issue using a different pendrive?

Ans: Yeah , it happens with all pendrives.

Ques:Would it happen to all ports?

Ans: 'The device has malfunctioned'-This error doesn't occur always. I happens every oce in a while. But the Loose connection issue is more persistent.

Ques:How was it if you use an external USB mouse to isolate on all the ports?

Sorry, I didn't understand your last query. What do you mean by 'isolate on all the ports.'

By what I could understand, a mouse or any device works as per intended if the laptop is not moved from its position. if I move along with laptop then the device gets disconnected.

Hope, I have provided the information which you have asked for.

Thanks & Regards,

Utkarsh

Re: Ideapad z510 USB port Issue

Hi itsmeUtkarsh ,

Greetings.

Checking on the hardware manual (page 82-82) , you have one USB port on the right , 2 USB port on the left .

Do you have the same problem on both left and right usb ports?

As what you described, problem may be mechanical since moving it disconnects the devices.

The 2 USB ports on the left are on the motherboard , one USB port or the right has a USB daughter board.

These are parts needed to be checked by the service center .

Best you call in tech support for inwarranty service.
