Ideapad z580 Touchpad problems

I've been having problems with the touchpad for a while now, I'm not quite sure if they're are software or hardware related.

I'm running Windows 8 Pro 64bit

Synaptic Touchpad Driver for Microsoft Windows 8 (32-bit, 64-bit) - IdeaPad Z380, Z480, Z580

The Synaptic Pointing device will sometimes just stop working altogether. For the last 30 minutes it was displaying on the taskbar that there was pressure being applied to the center and I had no control over the mouse at all. I rebooted several times and it was still displaying that there was pressure being applied to the touchpad.

After leaving it for a little while it seems to have fixed it self and worked now, but this has happened on multiple occasions since my purchase.

One small thing I noticed was that lots of the time when the touchpad isn't responsive I'm still able to use the left and right click. I'm also able to move my finger around where the left and right click buttons are and it picks up my movement, however, if I try that on the main section of the trackpad it does not respond.

Any help is appreciated.

Re: Ideapad z580 Touchpad problems

I haven't tried the fix you suggested, but I would like to point out that for me it only occurs on one user (at least that I noticed) and when it does have problems, it is usually after I sleep or hibernate.  I'd prefer to use the direct driver from synaptics, since it includes more customization and options (chiral scrolling, 3 finger press to open specific application, etc)  This is what i was using when I had problems.  Do you think that uninstalling and reinstalling the driver would work?  This driver worked for a month or so before having problems.
