hi jaykesrwani,

Welcome to the Lenovo Community.

If you're room temperature is 25-29 degrees celsius, getting 34-40 degrees on idle mode is already cool. When gaming, getting temperatures between 70-90 degrees celsius on medium to high settings is average. You could decrease it more when using a good cooling pad and a good quality thermal paste like Artic Silver 5 or Tuniq TX-4.

Check out this notebook review on the Lenovo Y580.

Hope this helps..

Re: Is 35-40 degrees Celsius idle/installing temprature good ? normal ? lenovo y580

It's nice to see some actual numbered feed back. I have a very similar problem. My room is stinking hot, my gpu reaches a maximum temperature of 93 degrees under full load.. cpu reaches about 75-77.

I wasn't sure if this was normal so I posted numerous messages about it.

Thank you,

Sven.

Re: Is 35-40 degrees Celsius idle/installing temprature good ? normal ? lenovo y580

That's normal. My Y470 idles a bit hotter at 40 - 45 degrees and when forcing the CPU to run at full turbo boost (2.8 GHz on 4 cores, bypassing Lenovo's bios CPU throttling at 85 oC) I get 90 - 95 during gaming at 20 - 24 degrees Celsius room temperature and during summer the CPU reaches 100 - 102 degrees Celsius at 29 - 33 oC ambient temperatures with NO THROTTLING. (Kudos to the developer of the Throttlestop program ) Yeah I know I'm killing the CPU, but it has never shutdown on me. From what I research, the CPU has to reach around 110 oC for a thermal shutdown. The GPU though never gets above 90 oC. 89 is the max I recorded. Of course, I don't always run the CPU at 100 oC and so to avoid that, I set the multiplier at 25 x 99.8 MHz = 2.5 GHz, and temps are only 84 oC on the CPU.

And we're back...
