I ended up contacting lenovo support as updating bios had no effect. They had me return the machine for repair - I should receive it back on the 15th. I'll test it and report back

I updated the BIOS and checked everything - still shuts down by itself with a pop. Does someone know what causes this? I want to return my y50 but Lenovo service claims that there is no issue.

I tried every BIOS. I even sent laptop to Lenovo three times and they reinstalled Windows + changed BIOS but shutown still occurs. If someone knows what causes it please tell me because I want my money back.
I even recorded the shutdown but Lenovo still claims that it's a Windows issue:

Im pretty sure its the Bios. I had the same issue as you described and Lenovo just kept messing with me for 3 months. Please look if your Bios is v3.00 and NOT v3.03. My laptop has not shutdown since a year after i downgraded. Trust me. Otherwise, i cant help you, because this solved my problem. You can try other stuff that people mention online but nothing worked for me. For downgrading Bios you need to do some stuff in pre boot screen. Im pretty sure i made a guide which you can find in my post history. Good luck and i hope this issue gets solved quickly. This is a great laptop but Lenovo is very bad at Customer support..
