Lenovo IdeaPad Y500 TouchPad

2013-03-23, 22:07 PM

I'm extremeley impressed by the spec on the higher end Y500 and planning on buying. Only thing holding me back is this "touchpad issue". Has this been resolved yet? (Either via software update or new laptops being shipped with different touchpads etc) Obviously I'm not going to buy a £1000 laptop with a serious known fault.

Thanks,

Ryan.

AFAIK, the elan touchpad caused this problem which has been replaced by a synaptics touchpad which does not cause the problem. Also, i have heard that the lot in the stores is still having the elan touchpad, so you may order from lenovo site.

That's great news thankyou, I'll make sure to purchase a new version.

I think the last question I have in my mind before purchasing the Y500 is could I spend £999 on a better laptop elsewhere?

As I am going to be needing a lot of power for cad/rendering and moderate gaming I chose the Y500 as the best option but are there others I've missed?

I guess I'm also worried the Y500 is a bit chunky too.

You can opt for a y580 too. I have heard it has good gaming performance and also it didn't had any major problem discussed here in the community
You can compare the specs though

Y500 should be fine for you. I wish you get a problem free machine.

Re: Lenovo IdeaPad Y500 TouchPad

Hi.

I have a month old Y500, with what i assume is a synaptics touchpad. Im assuming so because it had the synaptics tab in the mouse options when it was working. And now its not.

I have tried to install the drivers found on the website. nada.

i tried to install the drivers found on the D partition. also nada.

I had a look at device manager, and i see a "HID Compliant Mouse" and nothing else.

when i try to open up the mouse settings, it reports and i quote:

"Unable to connect to the synaptics pointing device driver. if you have installed another ps/2 pointing device driver, please uninstall the synaptics driver by clicking on the yes button. you then need to reinstall your pointing device driver for your external device again. do you want to uninstall the synaptics driver now?"

another thing i forgot to mention, hitting fn+f6 does not do anything.

anyone has any ideas? if not, i'll have to assume its a hardware fault and drag myself to the service center for this one.
