I have a problem with the keyboard of Lenovo IdeaPad Z500.
In all the videos and forums of this laptop i have seen that it has a backlit keyboard and it should turn on with Fn+Space command, but my laptop doesn.t do that. I have tried this on Windows 7 and Windows 8 but anything happened.
My laptop has something damaged or not all the models of Z500 has this backlit keyboard?
Lenovo IdeaPad Z500: Intel i5 3230m 2.6 ghz, ram 8gb, hdd 1 TB, nvidia geforce 645m 2 gb, Model Name:20202.
Sorry with the grammatical issue.

I checked you computer's reference manual
The Backlit Keyboard is an Optional / Customized to Order feature.
You can also send me your Serial number through the Private message and i can check your computer's components.
"Normally when you press the power button on your computer. it will do a light check on the keyboard maybe flash the light for few seconds and then turn off and wait for windows"
Hope this helps,

I have the same Situation. Bought this great machine, but found that my model doesn't have the backlit Keyboard Option installed.
Aftre checking the Hardware Manual I have seen that it is quite easy to replace the Keyboard.
Question now: Is it just the Keyboard Hardware that makes the difference between backlit and no backlit or is there even different cables and connectors and Drivers required to get this done? My idea is just to replace the Keyboard without backlit with a Keyboard that has backlit.
Not sure what it costs but is that an Option to consider?

Recently i had bought a new Lenovo Z500 Leptop and i am facing a Backlight keyboard problem alot.
In all the videos and forums reguarding to this laptop i had seen that it contains a backlit keyboard
i asked the at customer care service that do my leptop contain backlight keyboard they told me yes, you have
than i asked them for helping me to turn on my backlight on my keyboard they told me to press Fn+Space command,
but still my laptop doesn't light up,than they ask me for serial no to reconfirm ,"backlight problelem" i provide them,
than i again ask them with shurity at least 10 times do i have or not or whats the problem with my leptop they said me yes, you have a backlight
on the behalf of all above this then they register my problem specially mentioned in that "keyboard backlight issue"
and send me a new keyboard with enginear
when he came to my house, he came with without backlight keyboard.
i told him all the situation,he also verified my leptop and also asked to his senior reguarding to my leptop that does my leptop contain backlight keyboard or not...?
his seniour told him yes this leptop contain backlight ,than enginear also verified and accept that i have a backlight on my leptop
than he take back that new keyboard and reqest again for a new backlight keyboard
after that a call came to me from the service center by the recepcionist asking me why you had't replaced the keyboard i told him than he asked to his boss he said to her
tell the coustomer if he want, than accept only this keyboard and replace it,otherwise we will not replace it by backlight keyboard and we are closing the call(complained call)
than again i call to customer care and told them all what happened me,
than customer agent go and talk to their seniour reguarding to my problem
and came to me with a reply that your leptop does't have a backlight
now plzz tell me,what the **bleep** is going on with me
and also tell me what to do now reguarding to all this critical situation
right and genuin way to get out of it because siriously now too much irretated with all this crap
