save all your important data and do a afile of your application installation files and serials numbers and do a factory reset, it`s the quickest way to solve any issue, it will save you plenty of time trying to troubleshoot the problem and you can always backup your machine using onekey recovery tool so that if the issue still presists after a fresh install you can restore your old image.

Same issue here. It happened after the computer automatically updated to Windows 8.1. The only other thing other than re-booting is to press Control +Alt+Delete and the mouse pointer re-appears. Need a fix on this right away!!! Frustrating after spending $800.00 on this Ideapad Y500!!!!!!!!!!!!

This is an ongoing issue and is not solved yet. Elan touchpads that are still used have exactly the same issue. Drift, jump, auto selections etc. Happens on all operating systems(Linux, Windows). I can solve with an instant rotation(roll), holding from both edges my Lenovo B70-80. This means it is kind of EMI or controller issue. Not touchpad. I replaced mine with a new one but issue remains the same.
