Re: Lenovo Ideapad Y500 Touchpad Not Working

2012-12-25, 1:02 AM

I still don't think it's a hardware problem. I got my Y500 last week and noticed the problem after a few days of use. The main reason i think it's software related is that restarting/sleeping the computer fixes the problem, at least for a few hours/days. This wouldn't work if it was a case of the laptop overheating.

Also my issues don't seem to happen as the laptop heats up, as has been suggested here. Even after 5min of use it could break, but other times after hours of gaming it works fine. So I see no correlation.

I may be being overly hopeful but I'm going to hold on to the laptop for a while, at least to see if Lenovo responds. If it is a hardware issue presumably they'll fix it and replace the faulty laptops.

Wow im so dissapointed, i bought yesterday the y500 and i had the touchpad issues but also cracking keyboard, near the delete button. So i went back to the shop and i got a replacement, a new y500, when i was home the touchpad of my replacement started with the weird movement and i had the same problem with the new one too.

I will return this also back and i will ask my money back.

Shame on you lenovo....i was in love with the y500 when i bought it, now im heartbroken

Hi Jay,

i see that you are from Netherland. I bought mine y500 at MediaMarkt and i already have it packed and prepared for return. Price is way to high to ignore this issues that we have from the very first day. Where did you buy yours and do you think it would be easy to ask for money back?

Other than that, i can state few facts. This issuse has nothing to do with temperature. I dont play games at all and i did not do almost anything on the computer when i saw this first time happening. I also uninstalled drivers and revert to generic ps/2 mouse drivers and i still had issues. This is a proof that  this issue is not sollely software type. Problem has some physical nature since most of the time it was happening, it was imidiately after pressing right button where we use some more presure on the trackpad surface.

I am going day after tomorrow to ask for suitable replacement (other model) or my money back.

Hi mr02280,

I bought my laptop at bcc. I had the first 5 minutes problems with my touchpad. The next day I went back and got a new y500 without problems. I didnt know that its a known issue, so i will bring it soon as possible back, i dont know if the shop is open tomorrow because of christmas, and yes they will return my money and yours too, just show them this topic too, maybe i will go for a 3rd, because i realy like this laptop, it looks amazing. Anyway, good to know to that more  people have the problem because now i know its a known issue. Goodluck with yours and i hope you can get your money back or a new laptop!

This is how it looks like, when its touched and when touched with 1 finger. I realy think its a hardware issue and not software.

2012-12-25, 18:04 PM

Dear Lenovo,

Will you ever respond on the y500 touchpad problem? Because i dont want to return my laptop. I realy like my laptop except the touchpad issue of course.

This is how its looks like when the touchpad is NOT touched and when its touched.

Best regards,

Jay

Those of you  who have returned your y500, what is the process for doing so? I no longer have my recovery partition, I wiped the laptop and am dual booting win7/openSuSE and I have the touchpad problem on both OS, which leads me to believe this is a hardware issue. Lenovo's silence on the matter is not helping at all and at this point I definitely want to return my y500, it is practically useless. This was the first time I bought from Lenovo and you can bet it will be the last!
