Re: Lenovo Ideapad Y500 Touchpad Not Working

2012-12-27, 18:55 PM

I'm going to throw in my 2 cents on this. First, I love my new laptop EXCEPT for the annoying touchpad issue.

I received the y500 a few weeks ago and it was working fine the first few days. I tweaked it a little then went in to download an online game using Google Chrome. I also uninstalled McAfee and use AVG only, since I can't stand McAfee. As I was downloading the game (hardly 5 days after I had received the laptop), I noticed the cursor just kept shaking, moving around on it's own. I was like **bleep**. I thought I had a virus. Then I started reading and saw all of the complaints. I'm disappointed because I was raving to people about my laptop. Now I've got this touchpad issue.

I have Win 8 pro 64. I have installed the LATEST Elan driver on the LEnovo website....and am still having problems. What I've noticed is that the issue starts after the laptop's been on about a few hours. My touchpad emblem shows I have fingers on the toucpad BUT I DO NOT. The laptop also starts opening up all sorts of things, my camera included....which is really annoying. I've disabled the touchpad and put an external wireless mouse on it and had no problems BUT I WANT A WORKING TOUCHPAD!!!

Here's my dilemma: I bought this laptop because I have surgery coming up Jan 30 and am housebound for approx 3 weeks or more, so I will have to do things remotely. I used the laptop on a platform in bed and plan on doing so while i'm recuperating....but now I'll have to figure out how to use a mouse if the blasted toucpad won't work.

I also game a bit on World of Warcraft, which I only started last week. I haven't tried anything else to fix the issue other than shutting my case and reopening it, which fixes it for a few mins.

I really don't want to send my laptop back since I use it daily as a desktop replacement and esp not in January when I will need it for remoting for work.

WHAT is the issue??????? Drivers? Touchpad design??? Faulty heat dissipation? My laptop doesn't seem to heat up much at all, but if I had to guess I think something is wrong with that touchpad.

I have the one year + accidental warranty. If I ship it back to NC, will it get fixed pronto????

Help!

Also, how do we private message you????? I'm really frustrated with the touchpad issue. I have the laptop at work on my desk right now and it has NEVER done it there. Just about 20 mins ago, the touchpad started going crazy again and was opening up my camera, taking pictures, flipping all over....when i tried to get the laptop shut down, i had to struggle to get the cursor over to the power selection on the right.

I guess we all would just like to know: is it hardware or drivers? If hardware, will there be a massive recall and replacement of touchpads or units?

Really bummed because I had just gotten this thing tweaked and was psyched to be all ready for being out of work and prepared with my remoting in Jan/Feb.

Deelybop,

Does your system start opening up windows/programs while you are not touching the touchpad? That happened to me yesterday and I thought it was a security issue.

One thing I''m also noticing is that when I use the right click button on the touchpad to cut and paste, it seems to set off this erratic behavior. I just tried to cut and paste a number after about 30 mins of use and immediately the cursor flew across the screen and all kinds of screens opened and closed. This really is annoying. I just disabled the touchpad and switched to the external mouse and no problem anymore.

This can really cause problems. I had a few screens open with information and the computer almost deleted what I had open. I'm scared it's going to do something damaging if it keeps up..

That's exactly what mine is doing when it really flares up. Random programs and windows opening. It's almost like someone else has control of my laptop. Really getting on my nerves.

yes! thought i had a virus when it first happened. i have a very secure system, so i know that can't be the case. same wireless i use on the desktop and it's fine. it seems like doing anything with that right button sets it off.

Yeah, I disabled my wireless card and unplugged my router entirely and then sat back (literally a few feet away) and watched as it opened all sorts of apps! So unless it's poltergeist, I am secure :)

And mine is definitely worse with clicking than tapping!  I was able to work for about 2 hours with no problem when I avoided clicking. Then all hell broke loose. I then rebooted and within 10 minutes I played a game that requires a lot of clicking and my cursor went haywire.

Just wanted to go on record on the forum that I have sent the Lenovo staff member the info they requested almost 2 days ago now and have yet to hear anything back.

I am paitent and understand things take time but it would still be very nice to hear back and stay in the loop with whats going on.
