Lenovo Ideapad Y500 - Unable to boot with new SSD drive - HELP

Hello there,

I just bought an SSD drive (kingston500 gb SSD) .

I use the AOMEI backup software to clonate the partition C: (from my orignal drive) to the new SSD drive.

I restart and I have these following screen and I was not able to boot propertly in windows,

Can anyone help me, please? I really apreciated.

I know the best option is to install Windows 8.1 and then copy the files I need it but I have installed several programs and configuration that I dont want to loose  (like Outlook, etc.).

Many thanks!!

Hi @Kalessim Do you have the SATA Mode set to AHCI in BIOS?

It may be a disk cloning problem, is the new disk recognized in BIOS?

Re: Lenovo Ideapad Y500 - Unable to boot with new SSD drive - HELP

Yes,

the bios recognized the new SSD drive.

I did the correct thing by clonning the C: drive on the new SSD drive?

Because they are several partition on my drive (one by the name LENOVO and the other one PBR_DRV with 2 forders: OKBACKUP and ONEKEY).

I think the same ... maybe I am doing wrong the clone or should I do something else?

thanks

Re: Lenovo Ideapad Y500 - Unable to boot with new SSD drive - HELP

Try to disable in BIOS, the secure boot.

Personally I am not a supporter of the cloned in these cases, the cloning is fine when you have to install the same custom system on several equal computers.
It is always better to install from scratch, this forces you to reinstall applications and reconfigure, but it is more secure and gives better performance, it is my personal opinion, but I understand that you have programs and configurations that you do not want to lose.

Before installing from scratch, wait for more answers, I wish you could solve it and make use of your cloned disk.

Re: Lenovo Ideapad Y500 - Unable to boot with new SSD drive - HELP

Hello again,

Its solved!!

what I did:

- Use the "Paragon Hard Disk Manager" software.

- The option "migrate OS" and install to the new SSD from the old HARD DISK.

- Reboot (without even touch anything from the BIOS) and work like a charm!

The only issue that I encountered was the icon in the desktop take too long to show up, so I delete the cache file and to rebuild the icon cache and everything works perfect now.

The diferent between mechanic and SSD drive is incredible.

thanks for your help anyway

regards from Argentina
