Lenovo Ideapad Y510P - motherboard fried, warrenty expired. Can I do anything about it?

Like the subject said.

I had a laptop I own back in 2014 and now my laptop does not want to turn on correctly anymore. I asked a local technician when I was on vacation during the middle of the week when I turned on the power button. Nothing displays on the screen.

And I know my warranty has expired a year ago, but I am looking to see if it's possible to replace it with a working model or exchange the broken motherboard for a compatible replacement, even if the new motherboard is a different model, but works enough to be compatible with it.

Was there ever been a recall on the motherboards when it was used for this laptop?

Is there anything I can do for this laptop?

Hi TheFallen13  ,

Welcome to the Community Forums.

You can always proceed on POST (power on self test ) for the systemboard.

This would be to identify at what end did the systemboard fail specially if the power button would still lit solid.

Similar discussion ( a bit long but did resolved the issue on a unique way ) on this thread that you can review for things to check ,  Useful on issue as no display , power solid on issue.

Would pressing the Novo key turn on the pc? What is the Machine number from the sticker?

If another motherboard even a generic one would be compatible and fit nicely on the chassis , you can always custom built any laptops and you may even get spare refurbished motherboard in a recycle center or surplus shop.

Tried to check reports but no recall on the system and model and it may be an isolated case.

Update us how it goes.

Regards

If the mb is really fried as indicated in the title then you just have to replace it. A different mb might not fit into the case since the placement of the ports and buttons differs from model to model.

I have assumed that you are already sure about the mb being fried in making the above statements.
