Lenovo P500 Disable Fn (Function) Keys

2013-10-16, 21:48 PM

The Fn keys are annoying on my P500. e.g. Why is it when I press F1 I mute my sound, and only when I press "Fn+F1" do I get the real F1?

For example:

F1 -> Mute/Unmute sound

Fn+F1 -> F1

F2 -> Lower sound volume

Fn+F2 -> F2

---

But I don't want to keep pressing the Fn key!

How can I disable this feature? I have checked

1) BIOS Setup (no legacy option)

2) Boot menu (no legacy option)

3) Holding Fn key for over 1 minute (nothing pops up)

4) Lenovo Energy Management (no keyboard options)

---

My laptop is a P500. Please help! :(

hi timothyg,

You're issue might be similar to this thread.

The Fn combination key is as design of the unit. If you like to get function of an F1 key without pressing Fn+F1, try to remap the keys using Sharpkeys.

See Map Any Key to Any Key on Windows 7 / XP / Vista (works also in Win8).

Regards

Thanks for your reply. However, I want to remap all Fn+Fx keys to Fx, and that program (the version you sent, and the latest version of the program) only supports your F1, F2, F3, and F10 keys, not to mention that it's a 3rd party program.

Of course I'm sure I could simply buy an attachable keyboard and use that, but that's really silly and makes me reconsider whether I'll buy from Lenovo again in the future...
