This is a limitation of the OS

Re: Lenovo Y400 - 9454-25O

You need to be a little more specific, did you buy the notebook with 4GB or have you added RAM? What happens when you run with just 2GB trying the chips individually on their own?

Re: Lenovo Y400 - 9454-25O

the system came with 2 x 1gb modules, but i decided to upgrade to 4gb, so i bought 2 x 2gb modules to replace, i replaced both of them.. went into bios to check and got only 3gb of ram..so i thought its normal, so i tried to boot up...but it hangs at the xp loading bar. it runs fine if its just a single stick of 1 x 2gb module. so i thought was my bios.

Re: Lenovo Y400 - 9454-25O

Try different combinations - 1+2 gb, another 2+1 gb modules just to test all of them to be working. If 2+2 gb modules can't run together after BIOS update, this can be a rare case of incompability of hardware and you should replace these modules with another. Or just use 1+2 combination since x32 Windows can't handle more than 3-3,5 Gb of ram.
