Recently I have noticed that the hinge of my Y50-70 is slowly opening. Pictures here.
It is a known issue of this model that the left hinge is plauged by a design flaw, which will sooner or later cause the screen to crack/whole hinge area to break/whole screen to dangle on its right hinge only.
I seek advice on how to loosen the left hinge nut, as I have read that this would fix the problem I'm facing. Would this prevent any future damage to the laptop caused by the hinge? Could anyone post a step-by-step video detailing how I should loosen this hinge nut and also how to put the laptop back together after that? Please and thank you!
PS: I have done a lot of research online but have come up inconclusive on whether loosening the left hinge nut is effective in preventing any future damage. I also failed to find a clear video detailing how to do this. I have never in my life taken apart a laptop.

Welcome to the Community Forums.
Try to check if you have covered warranty for your system here so that you do not have to attempt any disassembly since the steps do require tools and skills with the smaller parts. You may use Service TIP SF15-I0004/ HT102761 as discussed here.
Here is the hardware manual for disassembly guide and likewise the service training videos and module for review as this may be a bit complex. You can also compare your machine to other available videos such as here and here if it does apply similarly to your model as an additional visual reference.
Take time to review the module as well as the hardware manual and take note that it is better to have a service technician work on it. Technical support contact phone number here.
Hope this help answer your query.
