Looking at this Y50 series specs sheet, this unit can take up to:
Memory 16GB max / PC3-12800 1600MHz DDR3L, non-parity, dual-channel capable,
two 204-pin SO-DIMM sockets
The 4 memory slots is that the lenovo companion is detecting is likely the motherboard can support but physically, it only has two open slots.
As for the max RAM capacity, if you have the Intel Core i7-4710HQ CPU, the companion app is likely reading the max RAM that the memory controller can support (which is embedded on the CPU). Seing that the specs sheet above indicates 16GB as the max RAM, I recommend you stick to 16GB as this is likely the limit that the BIOS can support.
