Lenovo Y50- 70 Sudden power off on battery

Hi there,

I am posting here because I have run out of troubleshooting methods and steps to solve this issue. I have a Lenovo Y50-70 which fails to stay on with battery power on. It actually fails to even start windows when left with batter power only (no AC adapter plugged in).

What's really surprising is that this is a brand new battery (not original but the ones that are very much the same). The first time around I thought that the battery was defective so I sent it back. Now with a new unit I still have the same problem.

What's even more strange is that if I put back the original Lenovo battery, the problem goes away. I hope you can understand this is a 4 year old laptop and the original battery is compoletely depleted (lasts about 50 minutes max).

Things i've tried:

Bios, reflashing, rollback, set to defaults.

Windows, power management, looked and changed everything.

Lenovo Power Management software (reset battery gauge, set different power plans, no luck.

MSI battery calibration, does not work on this laptop for some reason.

Laptop is spotless inside, applied high pressure air everywhere, not a spec of dust obstructing air flow.

^temperatures are fine, no problems there.

Anyone knows what could be the issue here? Is Lenovo really like Apple preventing us from using 'aftermarket' parts?

Please any help would be much appreciate it, this is driving me crazy!

Thanks!

Re: Lenovo Y50- 70 Sudden power off on battery

Hi tdotnico,

Welcome to the Community Forums.

My best guess after reading the symptoms and the steps you have tried is with the OEM BIOS. It is also not encourage to modify it since it can endanger bricking the machine.

Whitelist serve as safety restrictions that limit non BIOS recognized part from being detected by the machine. Here is the article guide on searching and ordering OEM part. Still try getting a compatible battery if at least using the part number or specific battery manufacturer number.

I hope this helps answer your query.

Regards
