Lenovo Y50-70 is charging only when off

Hello,

I have a laptop lenovo y50-70.

Some time ago I was charging my computer with my original lenovo charger added to the computer.

Suddenly the smoke and sparkles came from the part where the cable and charger pin are connected.

I quickly unplugged the charger.

I did not use the charger again but I have the second charger with less power.

The computer only charges when is off. When I plug the charger in when the computer is turned on-there is no action.

I tried to take the battery out and put it again and nothing changer.

Is it the fault of the low power of the charger ? The computer looks ok inside,no burnt parts and pins.

Charging socket is also ok.

Could You advise me what could I do?

The lenovo support said that it is my fault because of destroying the charger so no help from them Smiley Sad

Thank You for all the advises.

I attach the pics of destroyed charger.

Re: Lenovo Y50-70 is charging only when off

Hi MrGabor,

Welcome to the Community Forums.

For safety reasons, it would also be advisable to use the recommended specification that came with your machine especially if you need to use your machine under heavy loads.

Lower specs chargers may also contribute shortening the battery life and generate additional heat from the internal part specifically for low amperage (to avoid motherboard issue on the chips).

You can also have it checked first with any local service center as they may have a universal adapter that can be customized to the specification of the original charger hoping that it was only a charger issue and not the systemboard.

Listed part from the hardware manual here on page 97:

Part number 36200605

Adapter, Delta ADL135NDC3A 20V6.75A adapter
(Y50-70/Y50-80/Y50-70 Touch/Y50-80 Touch)

Part number 36200609

Adapter, Liteon ADL135NLC3A 20V6.75A adapter
(Y50-70/Y50-80/Y50-70 Touch/Y50-80 Touch)

You can check yours from the sticker or from here.

Hope this help answer your query.

Regards
