I use my laptop with an external monitor, the LCD works fine but it's pretty bad. I put it under my desk with the lid closed. The problem is with the lid closed there is barely any airflow as the hinge part covers up the vent, and so when gaming I get thermal throttling. So I thought if I don't use the screen anyway I might as well remove it, but when the LCD is disconnected the laptop won't boot, the bigger fan does a clicking noise for about 10 seconds and then nothing, there is no signal on my monitor. I know it doesn't boot because when I press the power button it immediately shuts down. Is this behaviour hard coded into the firmware or is there a way around it?
