Lenovo Y50 Intel AC 7260 FOUND HOW TO FIX WIFI PROBLEM

2015-04-23, 19:56 PM

From the moment i bought the noteook, it had poor wifi range at long distance, and if i was using my GPU, my wifi card would go offline. Its a problem with all y50-70 FHD notebooks and even MSI ones. Playing online games was impossible with the in build Intel AC 7260. All the tme I  was using my nexus 5 connected to my router and using usb thetering to the notebook for gaming(you can use your phone if still this doesnt solve your problem).

1.How to know if you have the problem?

--Download GPU-Z, connect to your router at a long distance, 30-40 feet. Go to speedtest.net and prepare to start a test. Once you iniciate the in build PCI render test in GPU-Z you will notice your connection  is getting slower and slower utterly slower or doesnt even connect to the router. This is a common problem(some interferance with gpu memory clock and wifi card).

2. You dont have the problem, then please type if you are using the UHD or touch variant of the notebook.

3. You have the problem. How to fix it?

!1-----Firstly you will need to do a mod using regedit and adding a value, ScanWhenAssotiated, search in google!

!2-----I'm using Wfi driver 17.13.11.5 and BT driver 17.1.1501.512 if you update to theese drivers look again at regedit, they can return the value to default.

!3-----Download an app called Lenovo Settings Download

https://www.dropbox.com/s/j1803bu5hwp3saw/Lenovo%20Settings.zip?dl=0

!4----Download an app called MSI afterburner and put your memory clock to 225+! Dont touch the core clock for extra wifi performance -10-15ms.

!5---- Now you should open your Screen plastic pannel, the black bezzels. Look at the bottom for 2 wires. Those are the antenas. Take of the screen and reaply the antenas.

This is where they should be

Y40-70/80

Y50-70/80

Y50-70/80 TOUCH

Look at NUMBER 4.  Number 4 is where the antenas are placed.  Take them off and put them back on, TAKE off the screen(wont void warranty) because those antenas are attached to a antena on the back of the cover.

!6----- Now use my setting!

POWER management- OFF

802.11n 20mhz only(stability at long range) try 40mhz if you want more bandwitch at closer range.

Ad Hoc-11

Ad hoc QOS - WMM enabled IMPORTANT

ARP- disabled

Bluetooth AMP- ENABLED( this option makes my coonection 2x faster at long range)

Fat channel- Disabled

GTK- disabled

HT mode- VHT( this enables your connection to be AC/N 150mbps+

Mixed mode- CTS- to self

NS offload- disabled

Paket blah blah- disabled

Preffered band-  If you have a 5.2 ghz router use that option. If you dont use 2.4GHZ

Roaming aggresiveness- lowest( you dont need it, unless you are constantly looking for a newer connection

Sleep on WowLAN- Disabled

Throughput booster- Enabled

Transmit power- Highest

U-APSD support- Disabled (power management feature, noone needs it.

Wake on blah blah- disable both

Wirless mode - a/b/g

Now the finale, Enable Bluetooth adapter from device manager( makes wifi connection much stedier when enabled) and open Lenovo settings app. You will see a icon with the BT icon in orange, click on it to stop the BT service. You are done. Now try and see for yourself a steady WIFI connection.

English is not my mother language, and im still a student 11th grade. Making this happen took me more than 20-30 hours of searching and learning that the problem is not in the drivers but in the settings and antenas.

Hope I helped you, Cheers, all questions are welcomed!
