Lenovo Y500 has random freezing problems.

I got my Lenovo Y500 a year ago and after a week of when I first got it, it started having freezing problems and so I turned it off and left it off for about an hour or two and I turned it back on and it started working fine for a month or two and then it has the problem again, and then I do the same thing and it goes back to normal. I've been having to repeat this process too many times and it's annoying, whenever I'm playing any game on this laptop, it freezes, also when I leave the laptop on for like 5-10 minutes without doing anything on it, it sometimes freezes. I've read on multiple places and it seems like a lot of people have this problem for this laptop, but there's never a clear answer on how to fix it. Some people said it was the drivers, and some people said it was the Windows 8 causing the problem and I just want to know a fix on this.

Re: Lenovo Y500 has random freezing problems.

It looks like there are multiple applications running in the background, due to which system is freezing or works fine after restart. Follow the below mentioned link to perform a clean boot:
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/929135

If the issue still persists follow the below steps to Check if the windows system file is corrupt by perform a sfc /scannow. Follow the below mentioned link to perform sfc /scannow:
http://pcsupport.about.com/od/toolsofthetrade/ht/sfc-scannow.htm

If the issue still persists, then perform a disk check error to check if there is a hard disk problem:

Re: Lenovo Y500 has random freezing problems.

hi Yesitsmeee,

Great input from GuruAid-CS

as an addition..

Your system may have been the models with an SSD card.

Can check under Control Panel / Uninstall a program   if you have Express cache installed.

This might be an issue with the SSD caching that causes the same issues your having.

Let me know your findings

Cheers!

Indeed it does have Express cache, do you know any ways to find the issue?

Thanks for the info!

Re: Lenovo Y500 has random freezing problems.

You can also try to disable disk power saving in power options.

Re: Lenovo Y500 has random freezing problems.

THANKS FOR THE ADVICE. I HAVE FREAKED OUT TO TRACE WHY I WAS GETTING 5-10 FREEZES PER DAY.

I HAVE REPLACED THE SAMSUNG 128GM SSD WITH 1TB SAMSUNG 850 EVO SSD. IT ALL RUN PERFECTLY TILL LATELY.

I HAVE RUN A FIRMWARE UPDATE AND GOT BETTER RESULTS BUT SITLL HAD FREEZES DAILY LOOSING MY OPEN WORK.

THERE WAS NOT PROGRAM INSTALL AS EXPRESS CASH IN THE CONTROL PANEL .

HOWEVER WHEN I HAVE TURNED OFF THE RAPID MODE IN THE SAMSUNG MAGICIAN SSD SOFTWARE THE PROBLEM WAS SOLVED

4 DAYS SINCE AND I HAD ZERO FREEZES. I BELIEVE THE RAPID MODE IS SIMILAR TO EXPRESS CASH THAT U HAVE MENTIONED.

THANKS SO MUCH. IT SOLVED THE PROBLEM INSTANTLY
