I've got my Y510P quite long time and 4GB of RAM is too little this days.
Also there is i7-4700 MQ, Intel HD 4600.
I'm thinking about upgrading RAM to 8GB. And here is a problem, better buy one 8GB or buy 4GB to a second slot.
If I would buy 4GB it's the best to get the same as one installed right? What RAM is it?
If I would buy 8GB what RAM do You recommend?
Thakns for any help!

Welcome to the Community Forums.
Your laptop model can support up to 16GB of DDR3L 1600 MHz x 2 slots.
Depending on your need (applications and multi process needed to run at the same time) if 8 GB is enough for you.
You can likewise run with 4GB + 8GB for 12 GB to try.
Open task manager while you have all your needed task running and check performance tab for the memory consumed. Imagine if you double the memory (assuming that you would go for a cheaper 4GB + 4GB = 8GB total). By this you can approximate your current need to decide if you go for 4GB or 8GB upgrade.
Listed on the hardware manual are the OEM recommended ram page 87.
Hope this helps answer your query.

It is ok running in mixed capacity (4GB + 8GB) as long as the specification is the same.
You can decide in the future if another 8GB is needed for a max of 16GB.
If task manager shows fine with all your task currently with 4GB perhaps doubling it may just be enough for your computing needs so you can still invest on other parts like SSD.

We can only guarantee those specified parts from the hardware manual.
Choosing from other brands can be a choice as long as the specifications matches, here you just need to consider return options , warranty , trusted brand and pricing which ever would be an advantage in your end.
