2017-01-15, 8:28 AM

So my hard drive died and I never managed to secure a back up. I have a new hard drive coming in and I want to know the steps I have to take to get it running. Any help is appreciated.

Hi, welcome to  the forum.

If you are going to install a new hard drive, I think (personal opinon) that the best thing will be to do a full install of Windows from the ISO media.

If you are going to install Windows 10 get the ISO image from the Microsoft site. With that tool (on other machine) you can generate your boot CD or boot USB Flash drive.

Go ahead and install Windows, do all the normal procedure. Once you have installed Windows, also check for all the updates  on "Windows Update" and install all.

Once you have Windows 10 updated, I recommend installing "Lenovo Companion" and follow that tool to update some of the required Lenovo drivers and component.

After all the respective downloads, install and reboots, if you are still missing a driver you can always visit the "Lenovo Y510p support page" to find more information.

I hope this gives you some hints.
