Hello, as the subject announce my Y510P is having a mind of his own.
If i boot with the screen in normal position (at 90 degree with keyboard), the backlit on the monitor is turning on, but the monitor itself is black - i have no image here. If i connect something on HDMI - it`s OK ---on HDMI i have video.
I`ve noticed if i almost close the lid - making an angle of around 30 degrees between monitor (lid) and keyboard (just to have enought space to be able to push the power button ), the laptop is behaving normally - the LENOVO logo shows at POST and it`s booting ok without problems.
Any ideea ?
Thank you in advance.

Welcome to the Community Forums.
At this point we know that it is not the graphic chip as the point of failure and is probable that either the LCD cable or port and /or LCD as the issue.
First step could be reseating the cable as shown in the hardware manual. This would need some skills and tools so having it checked with any local service center may be better.
I hope this helps answer your query.

Thank you for your fast response. I was thinking about changing that cable, but you`re right at first it would be best a reseat ( a lot of people complaining about that cable and not few of them saw the replacement heating up and burning) . Hope it will solve my problem.
Tools and skills got this covered.
I`ll wait for my wifi AC module to finish his long road from China - and then i will attack the problem. The delivery is scheduled between 3 and 6 January. With delays, i will keep you informed around 10 Jan.
Happy Hollydays and a better New Year.

Hello, sorry for being so late : i`m back with updates. As the chinese company did not fullfill the engagement to deliver my wifi AC module, i`ve had to wait for another source.
The wifi module works ok - good news.
As for my problem - i have striped down my y510p - reseat the cable - without any change.
Replaced the cable with a Lenovo part - no change whatsoever. Replaced my new cable with the old one, as the new one has a strange behaviour - it`s very hot and i did not want my laptotp to burst into flames.
I`m open to sugestions if anyone can provide a new way to tackle this behaviour.

I may be proper to have it checked with a local service center for a spare LCD panel to test. You did mention of heating up and I hope it is not by the LCD cable port near the board.
Both boards and LCD are one of the costly parts on a laptop specially if another cable have been tested.

I was to consult a Lenovo repair shop twice.
First they tested my screen and the second time the mainboard - both passed with flying colors.
When i asked about a solution for my problem they told me i have to replace the screen and mainboard - 1000 Euro. I gived them their own diagnostics and ask them if i payed for nothing with 2 diagnostics. they assured me the diagnostics we`re ok , but as for why if all is good, but nothing works, they raised their shoulders. They weren`t able to provide a coherent explanation and provide me with a answer to justify spending 1000 Euro. A lot of babbling but no real reason - so i passed their offer.
In the mean time, my two years daughter managed to drop my laptop from the couch and it`s seems she managed to solve my problem : the laptop seems ok for now..... Sooo - yes gremlins
