Lenovo Y550 problem with WiFi and 8GB of Ram

Last night I installed 8gb of RAM into my Y550. The computer showed 8gb of RAM but my WiFi also stopped working.

I took out one stick to set it back to 4gb of RAM and my WiFi started working again.

Does this happen for anyone else? I need a solution Smiley Sad

Re: Lenovo Y550 problem with WiFi and 8GB of Ram

So I tested each individual memory bank and noticed the following:

If I have 4gb only in the lower bank my wifi works. If I move the 4gb to the upper bank my wifi stops.

I think when I get home I will try seeing if I can plug in a 2gb module in the upper bank with a 4g module in the lower bank and see if my WiFi will still work or not.

I really really hate this.

Re: Lenovo Y550 problem with WiFi and 8GB of Ram

I am using Windows 7 Home 64 bit.

When I put in a 2gb module in the upper bank the WiFi still works. It is only the 4gb module that make it throw error code 10.

your chipset may not support 8 gb ram.

what's your chipset? ( intel pm45 or gm45? )

Re: Lenovo Y550 problem with WiFi and 8GB of Ram

EEP. I have a Y550, and I've been looking into buying 8GB. I'll pick up a 4GB stick in a few days, and post the results.

Only thing I can think of is there is an addressing conflict associated with one of the memory addresses.

Yigit, I'll keep you updated.

Re: Lenovo Y550 problem with WiFi and 8GB of Ram

Ok, I need a bunch of more information from you folks. I just purchased a 4GB Corsair 1333 mHz (10600) stick, from a local computer chain: http://www.memoryexpress.com/Products/PID-MX30597%28ME%29.aspx?cc=1

I installed the single stick in both the upper and lower slot, placing one of my original Lenovo sticks in the adjacent slot. Both times, I was able to boot into Windows, and get an IP on my wireless network. So, we know it isn't a fault across all lines.

Can you provide me some info? Namely:

BIOS Revision: Mine is 2.08 I think, the latest one available

OS: Windows 7 Professional 64 Bit - Retail Installation

Wireless Adapter Name: WiFi Link 5100 AGN

Wireless Adapter Driver Version: 14.0.0.113

New RAM Model Number: Corsair 4GB PC3-10600 DDR3 1333MHz SODIMM

Maybe we can isolate this issue...
