Lenovo Y580 BSOD With IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL Code

I've got a used Lenovo Y580 that crashes frequently when a fair portion of its memory is being used, such as installers, or running games. It crashes to a BSOD with an IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL code. I've looked in the drivers section and there aren't a lot of drivers available for the Y580. I downloaded the ones that apply to my laptop but I'm still having the problem. Any help would be greatly appreciated with this as I can't get much work done with it in this condition.

Re: Lenovo Y580 BSOD With IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL Code

Hi there, Daysanalogue                       -

Thank you for writing in to the Lenovo Forum - happy to have you here today.

To me that sounds like a harddrive is getting ready to, or has, totally failed. If this is a new laptop or the warranty is still good, I would contact customer support and see if you can get it fixed.

Can you run a few tests from this link -

http://support.lenovo.com/us/en/lenovodiagnosticsolutions/tools

You should try Storage test, memory test, motherboard test, CPU test.

I would recommend contacting Lenovo service centres and applying the normal phone techniques to get it replaced promptly or assist you further.

Re: Lenovo Y580 BSOD With IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL Code

Hey there! Thanks for the reply!

I've ran a full comprehensive search with the LSC tool, it crashed once, but I tried again and all components came back with no errors.

If it means anything, the error it crashed with was a SYSTEM_SERVICE_EXCEPTION_ERROR.

UPDATE: I ran the LSC bootable to figure if it's a problem with Windows itself, and the "Moving Inversions 8bit Test", "Moving Inversions 32bit Test", "Random Number Sequence Test", and "Block Move Test" failed.

Re: Lenovo Y580 BSOD With IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL Code

That certainly looks like a RAM issue.

  1. Can you borrow a pair from another laptop to test?

  1. If you buy from a store that allows returns, e.g. Best Buy or Amazon then your risk if new RAM doesn't fix the problem is minimal.

As a Second Opinion you can try running this tool http://www.memtest.org/

This has almost the same property of test like the Lenovo One.

If you got same failures, you should contact Lenovo Technical Support for assistance.

As a third opinion, try updating  intel video drivers
