Lenovo Y580 SSD and HDD

2012-10-13, 11:01 AM

Hi,

Will it be possible to add an SSD drive to the Y580 and still have the original 1TB? Basically is there space for both?

Any help will be appreciated.

60 gb would be enough for os and small apps.
Look at the 8th post of the below thread. Its the exact location for msata ssd

It is possible to add a "msata" ssd but not the normal ssd with the 1tb hdd. The space for msata ssd is to the right of the ssd. It is mini pci port.

Okey thanks a lot for the reply ishaan, just to make sure. There is space for an msata ssd and the 1tb hdd without having to remove the DVD writer? And which size would you recommend? 60gig would be fine for the operating system and a few smaller things...?

he hard

2012-10-15, 19:29 PM

Thanks ishaan, the lenovo community and service has been amazing. The Y580 is awesome, if I have one critic though of the laptop it is the HDD.The space of one 1TB is more than enough but realy seems to hold it back. The Y580 scores 9,305 on 3D mark Vantage while the HP dv6 scores 10,108 with a lower end GPU(GT 650M). The HP has the same CPU and RAM but a 7200RPM HDD. Does the HDD in the HP really make that much difference? Or is it beating the Lenovo in some other way? Maybe drivers...I dont know. The GTX 660m should easily beat the GT 650m...

Thanks again for the help

I have a y570 which is very similar to the y580. In my y570 I have a 240 gb msata SSD, the 750GB that came with it, and i bought a 9.5mm slimdrive/sata adapter that let me put in another hard drive instead of a cd-rom. So yes you can use a regular SSD, if you want to sacrifice your dvd drive(the what?? lol)
