Lenovo Y580 Specs?

2012-08-09, 20:30 PM

Theres a Lenovo IdeaPad Y580 that I want and it's about $870 ($745 + S&H + Tax) and I want to know what it's resoulusion is. Is it 1366x768 or 1920x1080. Also if it's quad core or dual or single and if it makes a difference in gaming. Will it be able to run Skyrim, Battlefield 3, and Black Ops smoothly on High? Also for work running a buncha Word documents and excelswhich i know will be good.

Thanks guys :). (Also if there is a Lenovo IdeaPad Y580 thats 1920x1080 thats cheaper than $999? Maybe a similar computer with similar graphics card and specs. Please link it)

Hey SayWhat,

I can't find out its specs, because I can't figure out what machine it really is.  The type - 2151 - is a Z580 type, but it isn't in the ipbook that I can see.

Whatever it is  - Y or Z - it may be one of those made-for-retail machines that isn't in the Lenovo book.

Hopefully someone else with more info will chime in.  I just wanted to warn you that the Laptop in the link you posted may not be what it's claimed to be.

I could be totally off base, but wanted to make sure you had a chance to double-check before ordering.

Z.

Hello and welcome,

According to your link, that's a Y580 2151-29U.  Everyone else selling on the web thinks a 2151-29U is a Z580.   And selling fo less.  Odd.

The Lenovo sales site has a couple of Y580 machines with 1920x1080 screens.  209945U @ $999 and 20994HU @ $1099.  The latter one has an mSATA SSD cache drive and 1TB HDD.  I'm looking at that one ATM for my kid.  Looks pretty good.

I don't know what to tell you about that Office Max machine.

While impossible to tell what the machine is, you must look at the specifications given knowing how marketers think.

  • Intel Core i7-3520M: product listing says this is what you get, then that is what is in there
  • 750GB hard drive: likely a 5400rpm model, but you might get lucky and it could have a faster drive.
  • 6GB system memory: this should mean a 4GB stick + 2GB stick
  • 15.6-inch HD LED Display: Lenovo uses HD to mean 1366 x 768 resolution. I imagine that is the resolution on this machine. All HD means anymore is a 16:9 ratio. Lenovo and many marketers use FHD (Full High-Definition) when they want to specify 1920x1080.

Notice there is no mention of a discrete graphics card. So that means you likely only get the integrated HD4000 on the Intel processor.

This is likely a custom configuration for retail only and the only way to find out more about the machine would be to examine it in person.

X1 Carbon 3rd Gen Type 20BT i7-5500U, 2560x1440 (non-touch), Win 10 Pro, 8GB RAM, 512 SSD, Intel 7625 WiFi, BT 4.0 | ThinkVision P24q-10 monitor
