Lenovo Y580 - certain keys does not work

Hello,

Recently I noticed that some keys on my keyboard stopped working. First of all I found that ESC key does not work. Then I did an online test (http://www.keyboardtester.com/) and found that following keys does not work : esc, f4, f5, f6, f7, alt (left to the space). After some time esc key started to work for a few minutes but then it stopped once again. Esc key also didn't work in the BIOS. Looks like a hardware failure, but is it possible that only some keys stopped to work? I would be very grateful for any advice.

Thanks Smiley Happy

Re: Lenovo Y580 - certain keys does not work

Hello Despero23

Thanks for using the Lenovo forums.

Try a static discharge for this, it may help to resolve the issue or at least get rid of any built up static on the motherboard.

(If the battery is internal, please just skip the remove/replace battery steps.)
1. Turn the unit off
2. Remove the battery and the Mains adapter
3. Press and hold the front power button for 30 seconds
4. Replace the battery and the Mains adapter
5. Turn the unit on as normal

Hope this helps, let us know how you get on.

Re: Lenovo Y580 - certain keys does not work

Hi Krakken!

First of all thank You for your answer.

Unfortunately static discharge didn't help.

In one topic on the forum I've also seen an advise to unplug and plug keyboard again. I unscrewed bottom lid and opened notebook. I noticed that one of 3 screws which should keep keyboard was completly loose. However I didn't managed to pull out the keyboard of the notebook. I was afraid to broke it. Is there any special way to remove the keyboard safely and to get access to the keyboard connector?
