Lenovo Y580 won't start games?

2012-08-15, 5:09 AM

So I've had my Y580 for 2 and a half months now, and so far it has been great, but lately I've been experiencing problems. Most notable is the fact that now when I try to open a game, nothing happens. This happens for both steam and non steam games. For steam, when I open a game, it says I'm in game for about 3 seconds, then says I am no longer in game, and nothing happens on my screen. Any one else experiencing similar problems, or have a solution?

Did you install any software prior to this? Also have you tried using any antivirus scanner to scan for viruses?

Other than games, other applications worked fine?

The last thing I installed was Microsoft Security Essentials. Applications seem to open perfectly fine, and the last time I scanned for viruses, nothing showed up.

That's really odd ... after you open the game, can you open task manager and see if the games' EXE file is running in the background?

The actual game .exe doesn't run at all. If this helps, when I try to open a Blizzard game, it says "A communication error occured, please restart. If problems persist contact customer support."

For the record, when I restart my laptop, I can open a game, but only one. If i exit, I cannot reopen it, and sometimes it doesn't even open the game the first time. I would say the success rate of opening a game after restarting is at roughly 50-60%

Not sure if you are playing Diablo 3 but I found this.

I dont have MSE installed, can you try uninstalling it and see if it helps. Since there was no changes with your laptop other than installing the MSE then the error occurred.

I tried running everything before I was going to uninstall  MSE and oddly enough everything is working fine now, even though I didn't change anything. Thanks for all the help, and if this issue arrises again with more consistency, I'll try uninstalling MSE. Thanks again!

That's really really odd.... hahaha ... do post back here if the issue occurs again so we may know the root cause of the issue.

Thanks =)
