Lenovo Z40-70 | Keyboard Key not Working

I bought this laptop in August of 2014, and I have an issue with the 'W' key of my keyboard. It doesn't function correctly as it works when I press Shift+W to make it capital, and CTRL+W for other uses, but pressing w by itself doesn't register. I've tried using the 'on-screen keyboard' and even there, it doesn't function. I don't understand why this is happening so soon.

The lowercase w's were copied and pasted in using Google's results.

Re: Lenovo Z40-70 | Keyboard Key not Working

It seems that the key physically works then, so maybe a software is remapping regular w?

Does it work in Safe Mode?

Re: Lenovo Z40-70 | Keyboard Key not Working

I haven't tried Safemode, but it can't be that a software is remapping my key, because I haven't installed anything (unless it's a virus, but I check daily,) for a long while.

I'll try safemode and get back to you.

Re: Lenovo Z40-70 | Keyboard Key not Working

The W key does work in safe mode, so I'll check what application is preventing me from using it.

Thanks.

Re: Lenovo Z40-70 | Keyboard Key not Working

You can use MSCONFIG to isolate the program that's causing it. Disable half of the start up entries and see if it goes away. If not, disable the other half. Repeat until you find the culprit.

Re: Lenovo Z40-70 | Keyboard Key not Working

Solved.

I had an auto-hotkey that started up when my computer did, it overrided my W key for other actions.
