Hi sumanth2108 ,

Welcome to the Community Forums ,

Lenovo tested upgrade for your system listed on the hardware manual ( item 12 page 80).

Choosing a different brand suppose to work just fine but just to avoid any inconvience in terms of brand incompatibility , best to match what you currently have in terms of specifications but not necessary in brand.

Product specification for the memory :

16GB max / PC3-12800 1600MHz DDR3L, non-parity, dual-channel capable, two 204-pin SO-DIMM sockets

You can get additional 4 GB to upgrade (page 41) to 8GB total if you have 2 slots on your model.

Try to verify available slots and if a spare ram is available , there's no threat on testing it.

Max is 16 GB , so you can explore your options for future upgrade to combine or to match.

Hope this answered your query.

Regards

Hi sumanth2108 ,

Greetings.

As a Lenovo support , I may have to say use the FRU part number as provided from the hardware manual ( item 12 page 80) and order them thru directly from Lenovo authorized centers .

But as fellow user enthusiast , as long as the specs is the same :

16GB max / PC3-12800 1600MHz DDR3L, non-parity, dual-channel capable, two 204-pin SO-DIMM sockets . Better having same brand for full compatibility in case you plan to get 2 pieces of 8GB .

Check for the reviews and brand certification saying that they certify it to run on this model.

Example: crucial's  , kingston's , amazon's , Samsung's

From the hardware manual list , you can also match for the manufacturer part (ex . M471B1G73QH0-YK0 ) for preferred brands making sure that you get a  PC3-12800 1600MHz DDR3L  (1.35v Low Voltage Low Power) . As I buyer I check on return options too just in case .

Hope this answered your query and provided you enough information for your choice.

Regards

I agree with Spidey.  Memory is cheap and it's more reliable to get a matching pair as otherwise you may lose dual-channel which can slow bandwidth a bit.

The memory is pretty easy to replace,  and there are plenty of YouTube videos too.

Good luck!
