So how does one pair BT devices then? do one also use NFC?

In order to pair BT devices you would need bluetooth.  You dont need NFC to pair a Bluetooth device.  My W510 cam out in 2010 and did not have NFC but it did have bluetooth.  I can still pair my laptop with my cell phone.  See below for pairing instructions.

Below pic shows if laptop has option for nfc.  Then we would need specific model to see if it comes with NFC.

the reason I was asking these questions, is that i plan on buying wireless headphones with BT, and dont want to spend some hard earned cash, then it doesnt pair
