Lenovo Z50-75 -DVD drive not rezognized

Hello everyone,

today I bought a new Lenovo Z50-75 and installed Windows 10. Everything is working fine apart from the DVD drive, it doesn't appear in "This PC" and in device manager, under "Other devices" I get "HL-DT-ST DVDRAM GUC0N". I tried updating the driver but Windows doesn't find it automatically.

I also tried what I found on this link but it doesn't help too:

http://www.tenforums.com/drivers-hardware/26287-lenovo-z50-75-no-detect-plds-dvd-rw-da8a6sh.html

What can I do to solve this problem?

Please help!

Hi Jere5 ,

Welcome to the Community Forums.

You can try deleting both upper and lower filters in the registry after backup

Highlighted link for thr guide.

Update us how it goes.

I just tried what you sent me, spidey101, and there are no upper/lower filters in the Registry as you can see below. So what else can it be??

Re: Lenvovo Z50-75 -DVD drive not rezognized

Hi Jere5 ,

Greetings.

Try to turn of the pc and use the Novo Key to turn on .

Novo Menu would offer BIOS set up , check on the main tab if the cddvd optical drive is detected and go to the exit tab to load optimal defaults. Save and exit .

Review this steps as it offers different methods that you can try ( you can proceed with methods 3,4,5 ).

Update us how things go.

Regards

Ok, in the meanwhile I updated my Windows and the DVD drive is now recognized in the Device Manager (as you can see below) but still it doesn't show up in "This PC". I tried all the methods you sent me, anything else to try?

Hi Jere5 ,

Greetings.

How was it on the BIOS and in safe mode ? Isolate further in clean boot .

Would the optical drive reads and plays a disc?

To check further if this is a OS issue , try booting the system on another boot media image and check if the machine can use the disc drive.

Regards

Yes, it's recognized in BIOS and I can even boot Windows from DVD but it's not working in safe mode. It seems like the DVD drive is functional but the Windows just doesn't use it. Smiley Sad

Re: Lenvovo Z50-75 -DVD drive not rezognized

Hi Jere5   ,

Greetings.

Most likely a corrupted Windows registry/ file specially that dvd is ok outside windows .

Back up all important files as you can take the option to repair the system files (sfc /scannow) , chkdsk /r or decide of any advance troubleshooting steps .

Update us how it would works best for you .

Regards

Re: Lenvovo Z50-75 -DVD drive not rezognized

You have to update drivers for SATA AHCI controller , after update you will see AMD SATA controller . some reason windows not install this drivers.

Use automatic online update. my dvd working fine now.
