Re: Lenovo Z51-70 won't Start

My laptop was working totally fine past week but suddenly yesterday it turned off and now won't start. There was a sound near the fan but the fan is working properly. Someone told me that it's due to overheating but don't understand how suddenly this is happening. Please help

Re: Lenovo Z51-70 won't Start

Hi AMahanta,

Welcome to the Community Forums.

You can follow the power checkout guide from the manual (page 21-22) as this would allow you to isolate possible points of failure. Having the internals checked can also be best having the fans cleaned or with thermal paste re applied to check if the issue is due to overheating.

Having the laptop rest for 1-2 hours (charger not connected should be enough to cool off the components if it is related to overheating so if the ac charger is proven ok then have the machine checked with your local tech can be the next option.

Update us how things go.

Regards

Re: Lenovo Z51-70 won't Start

I check it with the local techie, they've re-applied new thermal paste and also cleared the dust but still the problem persists. I left the laptop overnight, that must have cooled down the components hut hn the morning I tried to switch it on and still the same result- it turns on shows LENOVO and switches off.

Re: Lenovo Z51-70 won't Start

Hi AMahanta,

Greetings.

It would be hard to say which failed as the machine seems to fail POST (power on self test).

During the service, your local tech could have assessed the internal parts and cleaning and reapplication of the paste is just an initial way to start identifying the issue.

Removing the harddrive, should at least show a display onscreen with option to press keys to proceed.

A working BIOS screen is a good indicator that major POST parts are ok.

I suggest you have the service tech informed that initial cleanup and paste did not work so then can proceed checking for points of failure on other parts and proceed with the systemboard.

Regards
