Lenovo Z560 video ghosts from right click menu get stuck on screen

Lenovo Z560 Ideapad running Windows 7 Pro SP1 all up to date.

When I right click to pull up the context menu, the menu displays in two steps: the first step is faint, but when I move the mouse into the menu it brightens up. If I click on one of the menu items, that action will be performed, but that one menu item is then stuck on the display in a semi-ghost manner - by that I mean I can see it, but it is no longer active - clicking on it again does nothing, so it's not really there, but if the ghost is on top of a link or something, that action will occur.

I have found that if I make one of these ghosts near the bottom edge, then that will be the only ghost for a while and it won't be so annoying. I right click on the desktop and click on Personalize, then that ghost will sit and stay there.

I have tried installing a new video driver, but that didn't help - maybe I haven't found the right driver. I would guess there is a conflict with something else that has been installed - but there's about 6 years of stuff.

Any ideas?

Hi, TimCinor   -

Thank you for writing in to the Lenovo Forum - happy to have you here today.

Why not try a System Restore back to when it was working?

Update us how it goes.

Thank you for your reply.

Unfortunately, I don't remember when this problem started. At the minimum it was several months ago, but it could be years.

No. There is no way to go far enough back into time to do a restore, as I can't remember when the problem started. The problem started a long time ago.

Thank you for following up. Is there another idea?

Re: Lenovo Z560 video ghosts from right click menu get stuck on screen

So... I figured that I needed to start uninstalling software that I was not using anymore. And so, I started with what I thought might be the most highly suspect. I don't want to point any fingers yet, but the problem has disappeared ... at least for now. I'll report back in a couple days.

Cheers,

TimC

Re: Lenovo Z560 video ghosts from right click menu get stuck on screen

Hi:

Thanks for asking. Not yet. It seems to have improved slightly - it doesn't do the ghosting every time any more, but it's more like 75% of the time instead of 100%.

The program that I uninstalled was one of the screen sharing programs - I think the driver they installed has a bug. I'll uninstall another program and let you know how that goes.

Cheers,

TimC

Re: Lenovo Z560 video ghosts from right click menu get stuck on screen

Update: The problem is much improved after uninstalling a few "screen sharing" types of applications, namely, Mikogo, JoinMe, Citrix and GoToMeeting.

But I also found that on the rare times when it still happens, tapping the Ctrl key kills the ghost.
