Lenovo Z70-80 onboard connector for optical drive

I'm considering to replace the optical DVD drive with a optical bay kit and an SSD or a HDD.

The only thing I'm not sure of what connectors does the Lenovo motherboard have with the HDD bay and with the optical drive bay (PATA-SATA, SATA I, SATA II, SATA III)?

If there are no major bandwidth differences in connections I'd rather put the SSD disk in the optical bay (it heats less than a HDD).

Re: Lenovo Z70-80 onboard connector for optical drive

Hi  Orome ,

Greetings .

Based on the maintainance guide (page 43), it slides directly inside to the laptop to connect to the SATA ODD port .

This port has its own ODD daughter board to connect to the motherboard.

Product specifications: ODD with DVD±RW, 9.0mm high, tray-in SATA , but did not mention specific speed.

If you have a current optical drive connected you can check the speed using a tool . Click on this discussion for the specific details using HWINFO as a tool. Gen 3 Gbps = SATA 2,  Gen 6 Gbps then it's SATA 3, pic1 pic2 pic3

SSD Caddy as replacement for the optical drives would be convenient as many have tried . (highlight only as example and reference) .

Hope this answered your query .
