Lenovo ideapad z580 processor and RAM upgrade

I have ideapad z580 with core i3-3110M CPU and 4 GB RAM with win 8.1. I generally use it for running development softwares like eclipse, application servers and database servers. However its performance in not good while doing development activities. What are my options to upgrade my pc. Can I upgrade my pc to corei5 or corei7 with 8gb RAM?

Re: Lenovo ideapad z580 processor and RAM upgrade

Z580 Supports a maximum RAM of 8GB is a myth.

I have been able to upgrade to 12 GB with this module from Transcend. This is a DDR3 SO-DIMM  high-speed, low power memory module. The original replaced module was a 4 GB Hynix module. The blue-screen was coming often on laptop shakes and I on replacement it is yet to reappear. I got a Lenovo Yoga 910 but this trusty laptop performing better. Hope this helps folks who want to give this laptop a little more boost.

Just a few points that I did

1. Upgraded the BIOS to the latest - there has been one BIOS release I think and the Lenovo Companion fails to pick it up. You need to do this manually

2. The 8 GB RAM module is not detected in slot 1 - (The upper slot) so possibly you cannot go to 16 GB yet.

3. Follow ESD instructions carefully.
