Re: Lenovo y40 won't boot

Hi zach123 ,

Greetings.

Would you have the machine number? Check on the machine number from the sticker or check it from here ,just keep your serial number confidential.

Try using the Novo button to turn on the system ,as this gives Novo Menu for BIOS setup .

Check if the harddrive is still detected .

How was the display without the harddrive ?

You can test the harddrive integrity placing it on an external harddrive enclosure and check if readable on another pc.

Try booting on a rescue media and check its performance and boot.

Update us how things go.

Regards

Re: Lenovo y40 won't boot

Hi zach123 ,

Would it be the same black display if connected on an external monitor ?

Would caps lock and num lock led go on/off when keys are pressed ?

Regards

Re: Lenovo y40 won't boot

Hi zach123 ,

Greetings.

Just to confirm. what we have now:

Power LED is solid on.

Onscreen and external same no display (same in booting on a different media).

Cap lock /num lock no indicator led response ( input to led output is not processing on machine level).

No access to BIOS (even if turned on using the Novo button) . No Lenovo logo display.

It is possible for a No POST issue (power on self test).

Try removing the harddrive as it may be the same solid power led with no display and non responsive caps/num lock , no lenovo logo or BIOS access as similar to this case.

Service center intervention may be needed for probable replacement board if there be no changes even on reseating heatsink assembly .

Regards
