Lenovo y50-70 external monitor 120Hz

2017-04-11, 11:05 AM

Hello, i am using the lenovo y50-70 (960M nvidia gpu).

If i buy a second monitor with 120Hz And I connect it to the laptop, will it run at 120Hz or at the 48hz this laptop has?

What HDMI version does this laptop have?

Also what cable would i need?

Hi there, Mightyprefix                        -

Thank you for writing in to the Lenovo Forum - happy to have you here today.

You should see relatively the same frame rate, since it’s the same resolution. And the computer should automatically utilize the Nvidia GPU.

I have only seen 2 types of HDMI ports on laptops.

They are either regularly sized or the mini sized. You can tell the difference immediately.

I hope you are not trying to insert HDMI inside a USB port (or not trying to insert it upside down). Your laptop should have an HDMI port on the left side next to the Ethernet port. (Between Ethernet and USB port)

Update us how it goes.

Regards,

Hello MightyPrefix

Thanks for using the Lenovo forums.

Check your hardware manual on the support page, it should have the parts in there for you and what sort of connections are available on the unit.

If the graphics card is capable of it, then the screen would be running 120 Hz refresh rate I believe, I could be wrong here, not actually bothered to invest in one yet, do let me know how it performs.

Hope this helps, let us know how you get on.
