Re: Lenovo y50-70 fps and temp problem

Welcome to the Forums Big!

Overheating is a common issue in laptops, especially on gaming. Check if your laptop is overheating from sides and below.

About the fps drop, it is possible that there's a running process/service, possibly an OEM software that watching the temperature of your video card and/or cpu, switching them to some cooldown mode if necessary. Check for these possibilities.

I'm pretty sure the noise is coming from the read/write arm in the HDD. It is moving side to side and making the noise you are hearing. It gets louder during games because the read/write arm is moving more rapidly to access game files while playing & this is normal.

Let us know if it helps.

Re: Lenovo y50-70 fps and temp problem

Hey there. First off, I will recommend to learn about graphics options and NOT use the Geforce optimized options. Geforce does not provide the best performance/quality settings.

You should not be hearing your HDD under any circumstances. What kind of a sound are you hearing?

Could the sound just be the fan?

If you post your current Graphical settings (screenshot), I can help you fine tune them and get a better quality/performance experience with possibly lower temp.

Re: Lenovo y50-70 fps and temp problem

Change the following settings -

Tessellation - Low

Post FX - Med

Anisotropic Filtering - X8

Soft shadows - one lower than current value

Temps around 80 are ok but 90 is not good. See if those setting changes reduce the temp a little.

You can also consider using the following -

1) Play games in a cool environment, use air conditioning if available.

2) Keep the laptop propped up from the surface to help in air flow. You can either put a small book or buy a cooling pad for this. Make sure the item does not block any ventilation holes.

3) Clean dirt and dust from the air vents if you see anything stuck.

4) Play on lower graphics settings to keep the temps down and fps up.

Let me know if those options help.
