Re: Lenovo y50 Ethernet Problem

So I have a Lenovo y50. The laptop used to have no issues connecting to wired internet. In fact, it connects to my home wired internet quite fine. But at Georgia Tech (my college) it is unable to connect. I assumed it was a hardware problem and I even got an agent to do RDP and test a bunch of driver installation and other things to no avail. She gave me an RMA which I still have not used. She assumed it was a hardware problem but I recently learned this is not the case.

I installed Ubuntu 15.10 recently for a class here at Tech (dual boot with Win10). Immediately, my wired internet worked again (but only in Ubuntu). In Ubuntu, it says the ethernet driver being used is r8169. I am sure you are all aware that the y50 has a Realtek ethernet card like most Lenovo products.

Anyway, in Win10, very infrequently will the wired show that it is "Identifying..." and then fail and say that the cable is not plugged in. Ubuntu however made it easy and I have already gotten the laptops Mac Address approved to work from the port which is why it does work in Ubuntu.

To sum up,

What works?:

-wired internet in ubuntu

-wired internet in win10 (ethernet port at home)

-wifi in both ubuntu and win10

What does not work?:

-wired internet in win10 (ethernet port at college)

I have tried:

-reinstalling ethernet driver

-reinstalling intel chipset driver

-reseting bios to default settings

I have not tried unplugging the battery from the computer and letting it sit (but I have opened the computer many times before and have the tools to do so if someone thinks this is a good idea)...I've been told this may fix some ethernet cards. I figured I should not do this since the module clearly works fine in Ubuntu. Should I try this anyway?

Please help me...I need wired in Win10 more than anything right now...the wifi here is nothing compared to the wired and I need the speed and low ping.

Thanks.
