Lenovo z51-70 Graphic Card Issue

(Frames per second ) droped a lot while gaming so I went to a professional and he told me that the amd graphics card wanted knew cooling paste so he changed it
it ran smoothly for 2 weeks and then whenever I start the windows it shows me the blue screen of death and restarts endlessly for different errors
so I went back to the pro and he told me that the card broke and it needs to be replaced
I know it sounds strange but where I live I can't just buy a new laptop, so I need to fix my problem
Right now to be able to use the laptop, I disable the amd graphics card and If I enabled it, the pc goes crazy ( overheats without even using it ) and shows me the blue screen of death
So I want to Know what parts do I need to buy, to restore the laptop ?
thanks
these are its specs
Lenovo z51-70
amd r9 m375 4gb
intel core I7 5500u 2.4 gb
8gb ram

Re: Lenovo z51-70 Graphic Card Issue

Hi,

I repaired notebook like this few months ago.

But the customer said to me that he will buy a new one - instead of buying chip and repairing it.

ATTENTION: before opening laptop you should disconnect charger, and battery, to work safely with components - and be careful about static electricity.

But in your case, you can try to open bottom panel, probably you will find 2 RAM sticks there. You can try to remove one. You can try to work with only one, Or you can try to swap it to another slot.

But i think it will not help.

The AMD Graphics card could be overheated. There are few options which could help or maybe not.

1. Probably reheating the chip with hot air solder gun will help. - under the chip there are a lot of contacts, and solder under the chip could be destroyed and could make false contacts.

2. Also the specialist can do a reballing process of the chip, - removing the chip, removing all solder from the chip, using special metal plate to make new solder pins on chip and insert chip in motherboard.

Third option is to buy a new AMD graphics chip or motherboard - it could cost 100 $ or more.

You can try to contact your specialist if he can buy a new motherboard or you can look to ebay and contact some seller. Also you have to ask him few questions, because of there are many different TYPES of the same model on the market.

Re: Lenovo z51-70 Graphic Card Issue

Well it depends on it, what you want to change.

If you want to change a AMD gpu chip: you wil need:

Hot air gun, AMD gpu chip, metal plate for reballing, reballing material (small grey balls of solder and flux, some resin, some alcohol to clean old thermal paste from cooler, new thermal paste, very good experiences with SMD soldering Smiley Happy, some screwdriver to open laptop, maybe some napkins to clena old thermal paste. Patience and luck.

If you want to change whole motherboard, you will need:

Motherboard, cooling pipes and fan can be used from your old laptop, thermal paste, cleaning alcohol, screwdriver, to unscrew many screws, mostly it is philips screwdriver, some napkins or toilet paper,

In both methods you have to be very careful because of there are many small cables, which have to be unplugged in the right way.

You should take some photos to have documentation, so later you can check things.

You can watch some videos on youtube https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Bxwx3sMRnZM

Also you can ask some specialist, which will help you with it.
