I have a lenovo z580 with an nvidea gt 630m 2gb. I accidentally dropped my laptop, and now the screen is broken. I can still see a bit, but not much.
I was wondering if it was possible to connect it to an external monitor (18,5 inch, but the same resolution as my laptop) using a VGA cable? My laptop has a place where I can enter the VGA cable (15 pin port). I would just like to know if it is possible before I buy the monitor.

Get yourself or borrow a 15 pin vga cable and try it on your hd tv, lots of them have the 15 pin connector also.

Thank you. I have another question.
If I use a VGA or DVI cable to connect to an external monitor, will I still be able to use my headphones? Or is sound completely disabled or something?

You headphones or notebook speakers will work fine, the vga or dvi does not have any audio, so no problems.

Can you not extend via HDMI... why would you suggest using a VGA cable on an HDTV seems odd...
Try the HDMI cable if you have a modern monitor or an hdtv. Not sure about this model, I guess I can try it but usually there is an FN and Key to enablei a second monitor.

The monitor I want to buy only has a VGA and a DVI port. My laptop only has a VGA port, meaning I will only be able to use VGA.
Right now I'm just wondering if I will experience bad quality with a VGA cable. The monitor I want to buy is only 18,5 inches, 1366*768 pixels. So it is not a big screen.
