Okay, I recently bought this new zebronic ghost headset(http://bit.ly/1UeppF3). The headset is great but the only problem is that the mic doesn't pick up any sound(when I insert the mic cable/jack into my combo audio jack). The mic get recognised but doesn't pick up any sound, nd also my internal laptop mic works. So I tried it with my friend's headset and his mic didn't pick any sound either. Well then I tried using a Headset adapter(this one : http://amzn.to/1Uepclb), But the same results. Then I bought a usb Sound card(This one : http://amzn.to/1YtHoHC), didn't solve the issue either. I have searched everywhere for a solution but couldn't find it anywhere. The reason why I use a external mic is because my internal mic picks up too much noise.
I have Tried the following :
1.Updated all my Drivers.
2.uninstalled my audio drivers and reinstalled them(Devive manager meathod)
3.Tried inserting only the headset microphone cable in the audio jack
4.Tried combinig the cable using a headset adapter and also using a usb sound card
However when I select Agc(auto gain control) under custom tab in microphone properties it goes up half a level, but it still doesn't regonise any sound. Also when I select listen through this device(in headset microphone properties), I hear a loud screeching noise(like rubbing sand paper together - static noise I guess), although this happens only when the micrphone volume is above 80%.
Please help me resolve this issue. Thanks in advance

Check Smart Audio (if not loaded in taskbar), you'll see it in control panel.
Lenovo has its own master controls. There maybe another but it doesn't hit me (waiting for my morning coffee).

No, I don't have smart audio (conexant smartaudio HD) anywhere. I tried installing it though but it failes saying that the device could not be found.
well if you are talking about lenovo settings(master control centre I guess), It isn't much useful:
Also my laptop is a Ideapad, not a thinkpad. (I guess only thinkpad versions have smartaudio).

Z70-80 is not a Thinkpad, but part of the Ideapad family. I suspect you did a clean install and/or your Window 10 updates from Lenovo are not all upgraded or installed.

Well there was a harddisk problem before (6-7 months ago), They changed my harddisk however(covered in warrenty). Also I have all the latest updated drivers installed. Just checked them thrice, manually as well as using windows and lenovo updater. Used a 3rd party one too. (IOBit Driver Booster)
